MDA Lock-Up
On Thursday, March 18th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., nearly 50 business executives and community leaders from the Streator community are expected to be “locked-up” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. These big hearted “jailbirds” will raise money to benefit local families living with neuromuscular disease.
Participants will “surrender” themselves to the Streator Fire Department located at 108 N Wasson Avenue, where they will serve one-hour sentences. Casey’s Pizza will be catering the luncheon and firefighter volunteers will be serving as our “arresting” officers.
In order to be released, these “jailbirds” must raise their “bail” by reaching out to their friends, family and business associates. Bail is set at $800, which sends one child to MDA Summer Camp. These funds will directly impact the lives of local families who are affected by any of the 43 forms of muscular dystrophy, including ALS (Lou Gehrig’s) and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Prominent jailbirds include: Mayor Ray Schmitt; Rene Barr of Vactor Manufacturing; Kevin Dean of Edward Jones; Debbie Spangler of Coldwell Banker; Ryan Schmitz of First State Bank; the Streator Circle K locations; and so many more local MDA heroes!
MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through worldwide research, comprehensive services and far reaching professional and public health education. For additional information regarding the Streator Lock-Up or the MDA, please call Melody Reilly at (630) 598-0700. http://www.mda.org.
